Summary
Cadence is a Mac app that helps students plan their schoolwork. What it reads from Google is stored on your Mac, not in our database. We keep a small account record and a usage count so we can run your subscription and apply fair-use limits. When you use an AI feature, the details needed to answer you pass through our server to an AI model and aren’t kept or used for training. We don’t sell your data or show ads.
Google data Cadence accesses
With your permission, Cadence accesses the following through Google’s sign-in:
- Google Classroom (read-only): your classes, assignments, grades, class materials and announcements.
- Google Calendar: the list of your calendars and their events, so Cadence can plan around your time. Cadence adds events only after you approve each one.
- Google Tasks: your tasks. Cadence adds a task only after you approve it.
- Basic profile: your email address, to identify your account.
Cadence does not request access to your Gmail or Google Drive. It never sends email. When you ask it to help you email a teacher, it opens a pre-filled draft in Gmail for you to review and send yourself.
Where it’s stored. Everything Cadence reads from Google is stored locally on your Mac, inside the app’s private storage. It is not copied to a database that we run. Your Google sign-in tokens are kept in a private file on your Mac. Our server briefly handles a one-time code or token when you sign in, only to complete the exchange with Google; we don’t store it.
Google API Services User Data Policy. Cadence’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We use Google user data only to provide and improve the user-facing features you see in Cadence. We do not sell it, use it for advertising, or allow people to read it, except with your consent, to comply with the law, or for security.
Your Cadence account
You sign in with Google through Google Firebase Authentication. Our servers, hosted on Supabase, store:
- your account ID and email address;
- a record of each AI request: when it happened, which feature it was for, which model answered, and its size and cost. The text of your questions and answers is not stored.
- your subscription status, so we know whether your plan is active.
We use this to run your account, enforce daily and monthly fair-use limits, prevent abuse, and keep the service running. This website doesn’t use cookies, analytics or advertising trackers.
AI features
When you use the daily brief, assignment summaries, time estimates, the weekly plan or chat, Cadence sends the parts of your data needed for that task (for example assignment titles, due dates and instructions) to our server, which forwards them to an AI model through OpenRouter to produce your answer. We ask OpenRouter to route only to providers that don’t store prompts or use them for training. The text you send is not kept on our servers and is not used to train AI models. AI answers can be wrong, so check anything important.
Payments
Subscriptions are processed by Stripe. Your card details go directly to Stripe, and Cadence never sees or stores your card number. We receive your name and email, and whether your payment succeeded.
Service providers
We use these providers to run Cadence. Each receives only what it needs to do its job.
- Google: sign-in and the Classroom, Calendar and Tasks data you authorize.
- Google Firebase: account sign-in.
- Supabase: our server and the account and usage records described above.
- OpenRouter and the AI model providers it routes to: producing AI answers.
- Stripe: payments.
- Vercel: hosting this website.
We don’t sell, rent or share your personal information with anyone else, except if the law requires it.
How we protect your data
Data travels over encrypted connections. Our secret keys are stored only on our server and never inside the app. Access to account records is limited to our server’s own code and to the developer. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep yours safe.
Students and schools
Cadence is a consumer app that you choose to use. It isn’t provided by or on behalf of your school. It isn’t directed to children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their information. If you think a child under 13 has an account, contact us and we’ll delete it.
Your choices and controls
- Remove Cadence’s access to Google at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
- Sign out or erase local data in Cadence under Settings → Data. This removes your tokens and everything stored on your Mac.
- Delete your account. Email us and we’ll delete your account record and usage history within 30 days and cancel any subscription.
- Ask for a copy of the account information we hold about you.
We keep account and usage records while your account is active and delete them when you ask or after your account has been inactive for two years. Payment records may be kept longer where the law requires it.
Changes to this policy
If we make a meaningful change, we’ll update the date above and, for important changes, tell you in the app or by email.
